Introduction

Hi there! I'm Kuolema, founder of Ravengard alongside my co-founder, Razer.

The Founding of Ravengard

Ravengard was founded by Kuolema (myself) and Razer (my co-founder) on December 4th, 2018. At first it was not actually called Ravengard. We went through multiple names; some of which were more weird than others. The first name that came to my mind was "Gauden". When suggested to Razer, he bluntly told me that it sounded like a weird name for a cheese, so I dropped it. The next name I was thinking of was adopted somewhat from another Discord server I had made and intended for a Discord-only community. That community was named "Raven's Nest". I started thinking of ways I could combine the word "Raven" with another word and make it sound somewhat decent. I started thinking of the word "guard" -- as in to protect something. I thought to myself "Ravenguard", but then that didn't look right. I erased the "u" in "guard" and ended up with "Ravengard" and it simply looked good to me. I suggested it to Razer and a few of our first staff and they all agreed on it. It was definitely a better choice than some weird name for a cheese.

After choosing our name, I had to sit around and debate with myself on what domain extension to use. In short, I ended up doing ravengard.net since it sounded better than any other TLD. Next we wanted to choose what game to host a server for. I searched and played around with many game servers and ended up with a game server for SCP: Secret Laboratory, a multiplayer inspired version of SCP: Containment Breach. We started hosting a server, then me and one of my staff sat in-game for hours waiting for the server to get any players. Anytime we got players in the server, we'd do our best to make them feel welcome, and that's the kind of vision we have for the future of this community. We want people to feel welcome into a community full of friendly and helpful people and staff. We want our community to be fun. Of course, it's inevitable that we'll encounter toxicity within our community; it's within every community no matter where you look, but we strive to make our community one of the less toxic ones. It's a far stretch but we believe it's worth the work.

Now we're here, on January 19th, 2019, with an official SCP: Secret Laboratory game server that represents the staff and community at SCP: Secret Laboratory. I'm proud with how far we've come, and I expect we'll go far with this community. We'll gain support from our community, order more servers, open more game servers, hire more staff, and increase the boundaries of our community beyond what anyone would have ever expected. We're working hard to make this community great, and we're expecting this community to go places. We hope you'll stick around to see it happen!

It's March 12th, 2019 now. Thank you for all of the players who have stuck with us until now. We appreciate all of you. Thanks to you, we were able to get our Rust server online and operational. It's up and ready for anyone to join and play. For more information, visit our Rust server page. Again, thank you very much. We couldn't have done this without you guys.
